Sports facilities will increase in Chhattisgarh through sports academies

Raipur: The state government is taking concrete steps to improve sports facilities in Chhattisgarh. For the first time, Chhattisgarhiya Olympics were organized in the state, which gave a platform to players of all ages from children to the elderly to showcase their sports talent in traditional sports. Now the state government is going to bring a big change in the sports scenario of the state through sports academies. For this, public and private sector industries are also showing interest in running sports academies under CSR.

A meeting was held recently under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Sports and Youth Welfare Department Renu G Pillay with industry groups for handling the operation of residential sports academies of various sports established and proposed in the state.

Meanwhile, in pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the Governing Body of Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority held under the chairmanship of chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, a joint meeting of Commerce and Industry Department and Sports Department with industry groups was held on June 15 this year. A meeting was organized with 09 industries at Mantralaya, Nava Raipur on December 07 after consent was received for these industry groups.

Bhilai Steel Plant, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, NMDC Limited, Shree Bajrang Power & Ispat Limited, UltraTech Cement Limited, Bharat Aluminum Co. Ltd. Korba, S.E.C.L. Bilaspur, Representatives of Gopal Sponge & Power Ltd. Raipur and Phil Ispat Pvt. Ltd. were present in the meeting. In the meeting, detailed information was given on the steps required by the concerned industries, non-recurring and recurring expenditures in relation to academy operations, and essential points related to academy operations. The industries were also given detailed information by the Joint Director of Industries and Commerce Department about the dedicated bank account set up for transferring the amount of CSR funds.

Industry groups responded positively to the proposals of the Sports Department for supporting and running the academies. Jindal Steel and Power Limited will handle the entire operation of the Residential Shooting Academy in Nava Raipur. Under the first phase, a shooting range and office infrastructures were constructed in the 05 acres of land marked by Jindal Steel and Power Limited and it was agreed to start shooting training and competition. They also agreed to construct a hostel for players in the coming time.

Bhilai Steel Plant agreed to edit the signed MoU in January 2023 for the establishment of Malkhamb Academy in Narayanpur. S.E.C.L. Ltd. situated at Bilaspur has provided its consent for infrastructure construction work at State Sports Training Center Baitrai Bilaspur. Ultratech Cement Ltd. has provided its consent to sign a MoU for handling the operation of the Residential Hockey Academy situated at Raipur on January 2023 and it will start by March 2023. Shree Bajrang Power & Ispat Ltd. has given a positive response for handling the entire operation of the Residential Athletic Academy situated at Raipur. Gopal Sponge & Power Ltd. of Raipur and Phil Ispat Pvt. Ltd. of Takhatpur agreed to provide financial support to the Kabaddi Academy for Girls in Bahtarai Bilaspur.

Bharat Aluminum Co. Ltd. situated at Korba edited the signed MOU on December 01, 2022, for the establishment of residential football, volleyball, basketball, and swimming academy at Priyadarshini Stadium Korba. The academy will starts in January 2023. These sports academies with financial support and management operations by the industries will provide modern sports training, educational facilities, accommodation, and food to state players.
