First phase of ‘Chhattisgarhiya Olympics’ witnesses the participation of more than 1 lakh people from 170 urban local bodies

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government’s innovative initiative to promote traditional games in a grand way by organising “Chhattisgarhiya Olympics 2022-23” is a hit among people of all age groups across the state.

So far, nearly 1.5 lakh people have participated in various sports competitions at the Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club level operating in 170 urban local bodies of the state. These include 48, 950 women and 55, 852 men.

In the first phase of “Chhattisgarhiya Olympics”, under the team category, 2725 winning teams have been selected for the next level of Gilli Danda, Pittul, Sankhali, Langdi race, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Tsaksi, Bati (Kancha) games and under the individual category, 2084 winners have been selected for next level of Billas, Fugdi, Gedi race, Bhanwara, 100-meters race, and high jump. All these winners and winning teams will participate in the next zonal level which is to be held from October 15 to 20. In the zonal level (Level-2), the knockout method will be followed.

According to the information received from the Urban Administration and Development Department, the first phase of the “Chhattisgarhiya Olympics” has been successfully concluded at the Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club level in the urban local bodies from October 06 to 11. A large number of people including men and women of all age groups have participated in 14 sports under various age group categories that include under 18 years, 18 years to 40 years, and above 40 years.

In “Chhattisgarhiya Olympics”, second phase at the zonal level is to be held from October 15 to 20, third phase at the development block/urban cluster level is to be held from October 27 to November 10, fourth phase at the district level is to be held from  November 17 to  26, fifth phase at division level is to held from December 05 to 14, and sixth phase of this mega event at the state level is to be held from December 28, 2022, to January 06, 2023.
