‘Nijat Campaign’ a Rajnandgaon police initiative, leading fight against addiction.

Superintendent of Police Rajnandgaon Santosh Singh organised ‘Nijat Campaign’ at Press Club Rajnandgaon. Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Mahadeva, President of Press Club etc were present. Rajnandgaon police famed “Nijat” campaign got its start in January 2022. The campaign targets illegal drugs and raises awareness against them. This campaign mainly involves three points – strict police action, mass awareness and help through counselling and rehabilitation of drug addicts. It is making an effective contribution to the fight against illegal drug addiction. Minister of Chhattisgarh Ravindra Choubey formally launched the campaign on Republic Day, by flagging off the Nijat Rath. Collector Taran Sinha, Mayor Hema Deshmukh and other public representatives were present. The program is being organized in every small and big town and village of the district.Awareness Campaign. In the last 6 months, the police have organized awareness programs in 1205 villages/towns/schools/colleges/markets and through 2280 wall paintings/banner posters in the district. People have appreciated the campaign.Rajnandgaon police has produced a short movie with a rap song titled “Miley Nijat” to promote this campaign. Along with this, street plays, rallies, races, and various competitions.

“Nijat Weekly Program” was run from 14.05.2022 to 20.05.2022 in Protected Center Rajnandgaon and all police stations/posts. Competitions like Rangoli, Henna, Thali decoration, Matka phod etc. were organized for the participants of all age groups and the participants who came in first, a second and third place were rewarded with certificates and medals.The theatre department of Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, showed a rap song on drug addiction and a performance. MLA Yashoda Verma (V.S.Khairagadh) was the chief guest in this program.

A blood donation camp was organized in Khairagarh police station premises under the Nijat Abhiyan. In this blood donation camp, a total of 67 people donated blood by participating in the police department including the general public. Police honoured blood donors by distributing certificates, pens and helmetsUnder the instructions of the Government of India and Police Headquarters Raipur, the “Nasha se Azadi Pakhwada” campaign was run from 12.06.2022 to 26.06.2022 in compliance with the “Nasha se Azadi Pakhwada” campaign. It was launched on 12 June 2022 from the Municipal School Ground Rajnandgaon by “Nijat Run”. In which about 3000-3500 children / women / men participated. Organized programs in all police stations/outpost areas of the district. Dongargarh, Khairagarh and Manpur Nijat Run/Cycle/Bike Rally were organized on the 26th of June to conclude International Anti-Drug Day. Area MLA Shri Bhuneshwar Baghel (V.S. Dongargarh) along with other public representatives and the general public participated enthusiastically.

Under the third phase of Nijat Abhiyan, now counselling of drug addicts has been started in all police stations/posts. They are being explained the ill effects, this campaign is now having a huge impact and people are now joining the police. After this, those who are intoxicated and are not able to quit even after counselling by the police will also be given professional counselling, as well as sending them to the drug de-addiction centre or hospital for medical treatment in serious cases.

At present, many people have been admitted to the De-addiction Center-Central India Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Science Devada for treatment, whose treatment is going on.The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has published a book on the work being done by the police and other police organizations of various states across the country on innovation and good practices of smart policing. In this, a detailed article (pages 81- 90) has been published on the rescue campaign of the Koriya Police of Chhattisgarh. It is noteworthy that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh Police has intensified the proceedings against illegal drugs. It has created panic among illicit drug dealers.
