Congress’s fierce protest at ED Raipur office 

CM Bhupesh Baghel addresses party workers and leaders.

He warned the ED officials that the central government will stay for two more years but they will work for 35 years.

Raipur:Chhattisgarh Congress registered a strong protest against Enforcement Directorate which had summoned party’s national president Sonia Gandhi for questioning in National Herald case on Thursday. 

Congress leaders and workers gheraoed the ED office in Raipur and they were motivated with the presence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at the dharna site. The Chief Minister warned ED officials that two more years left to this NDA government at centre and they have to answer after it. 

Baghel said they are here to open the eyes and ears of the ED which should take action in money launderingcases. The same ED had closed the National Herald case against Sonia Gandhi in 2015. The ED had said that when there was no money laundering in this, then how will they investigate. If FIR is registered then the ED can investigate. Will ED tell in which police station of the country FIR has been registered against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

The Chief Minister said, if the central government and the ED have the courage, they should record the interrogation of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and make the same live on TV. The whole country wants to know what is happening there. The Chief Minister warned that ED officials that they will work for 35 years but this government at centre will disappear after two years. They should think about the future, Baghelwarned. 

Baghel said, during the freedom struggle, Congress leaders including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had started publication of the National Herald newspaper. In the changed circumstances, that newspaper went into loss. To save that, the Congress party gave Rs 90 crore to the newspaper for payment of salary to the employees, electricity bill of the institute and taxes etc. This amount was given in 9 installments over a span of 10 years. “Our own newspaper, we are giving money and this NDA government is terming it as money laundering. If a father gives money to his son become a crime?’ Baghel questioned.

Thousands of leaders-workers, led by Congress state president Mohan Markam, had reached in front of the ED office at Pujari Park, Raipur since 11 am. In view of the rainy situation, the party had put up a waterproof pandal here. Due to the arrival of a large number of Congress workers from other districts of the state, the crowd went beyond the capacity.

On the other hand, the Congress leaders who were marching from the Congress office to the ED office in Delhi have been detained by the police. It also includes Bastar MP Deepak Baij and Raipur MLA VikasUpadhyay. Congress state in-charge PL Punia has also been arrested.
