Agitation in Chhattisgarh for reservation: Railway line and roadways blocked

The tribal society is conducting a statewide agitation on Tuesday against the reduction of 12 per cent reservation. In Balod and Kabirdham districts, the tribals have blocked the road and rail route. Due to this, people are facing problems.

There is outrage in the community due to the reduction of 12% of reservations from 32%. People from the tribal society have also blocked the Dallirajhara-Rajnandgaon main road at Manpur Chowk in the Balod district, causing traffic to halt. They have also blocked the railway route, prompting the administration to take action. Officials from the police administration are on the scene, attempting to appease the protesters.

Protesters Tulsi Markam and Tukaram Korram stated that, after reducing the reservation, now only 20 per cent reservation is being given to the tribal society, which is unacceptable to them. He said that major rail routes connecting Balod, Durg, Bhilai, Raipur and Bastar regions have also been blocked today. Till their demands are not met, their agitation will continue. In Raipur, the entire tribal society protested near Lalpur MMI Hospital on Raipur-Dhamtari Highway.

Automobiles have been stopped at villages Joratal and Singhanpuri on Kawardha to Jabalpur National Highway. Large vehicles have also been stopped in the village of Magarda on the Kawardha to Raipur highway. Within Kawardha City, only motorcycles and passenger buses are allowed from the Singhanpuri village via Bhoramdev Road. Similarly, bikes and passengers from Raipur to Kawardha are given entry to the bus via the Rajnandgaon bypass.

In Pendra too, the tribal society is mobilizing to protest against the demand for 32% reservation. Many tribal leaders, including Marwahi MLA Dr KK Dhruv, and Archana Porte, a member of the Scheduled Castes Commission, have also joined the protests of the tribals. Goods vehicles have been stopped far away from the protest site. The protesters have said that the chaos will end after evening.

Tribals also blocked the Raipur-Raigarh National Highway-49 in Amartal village of Janjgir-Champa district. The district-level Sarv Adivasi Samaj organized a public meeting near the Amartal Hanuman Mandir canal. After this, they took out a rally and kept his demands. They demand that in Bastar and Surguja, class III and IV recruitment should be done 100 per cent from local people only. Apart from this, the Forest Rights Protection Act 2022 should not be implemented by the Center. Coal mining should stop in the Hasdeo forest area for tribal and environmental protection. He also talked about not curtailing the authority of the Gram Sabha.

Thousands of women and men of the tribal society have blocked the National Highway for their demands. Due to this, there are long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road. Due to the traffic jam, the district headquarters Janjgir road via Akaltara from Bilaspur is blocked.
