Senior party leader and former MLA RK Rai joins BJP along with his 150 supporters

In a major setback for Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCCJ), senior party leader
and former MLA RK Rai joined BJP along with his 150 supporters.

Rai,
who was considered close to JCC supremo and former chief minister of
Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi, was given the membership of the saffron party by the state in charge D Purandeswari. Rai was not politically active since the last 3
years.

During
the Bharatiya Janata Party’s State Working Committee meeting in Raipur, RK Rai
reached the state office and joined BJP with his 150 supporters and swore
allegiance to the BJP.

He
was close to Ajit Jogi and left the Congress party after Jogi formed his party
Janata Congress Chhattisgarh. In the 2013 assembly elections, RK Rai won from
Gunderdehi assembly constituency on Congress ticket.  

In
the 2018 assembly elections, JCC also fielded him from the Gunderdehi assembly
constituency. However, Rai lost the elections with only 8648 votes in his share.
