’Police Ki Paathshala’ crosses milestone of 500 students, yet another noble initiative by IPS Suraj Singh Parihar

Raipur: The IPS Officer opened the library ‘Police Ki Paathshala’ in his office in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi with the support of the people from all over India to fulfill the need of those who cannot afford costly competitive/ entrance exam books.

Established in February this year, ‘Police Ki Paathshala’, a book bank aimed at facilitating the needy with free of cost study materials for various competitive examinations in the Paathshala itself, has crossed a milestone of 500 students within such a short time span in spite of Corona related constraints and lockdown.

IPS Officer Suraj Singh Parihar, who has been hogging headlines for his noble gestures from the very beginning of his career, has once again been featured in the news for another benevolent work.  The IPS materialized his dream to open a free book bank called ‘Police Ki Paathshala’ at his office in the memory of police martyrs with full public support. Ms. Sunil Kumari, Daughter of the martyr head constable late Sh. Shiv Narayan Baghel and Bilaspur Range Inspector General (IG) of Police Ratan Lal Dangi inaugurated the library on 06/02/2021.

According to Parihar, the latest books of almost all the subjects and related to competitive examinations are available in this library. The books of competitive examinations are expensive and are not easily affordable for everybody. This library will fulfill the need of such students who can not afford expensive books. Also needless to say that new remote district of GPM lacks infrastructure and such facilities.

According to Parihar, the police are the doctors of society and it is the primary responsibility of the police to cure and heal its various ailments. The library will play a great role in removing the pressure of financial constraint of students, engaging better interaction of youth and police, and improving the image of the Police.

GPM is a tribal-dominated district located in a remote area. Students in the district often face difficulties in getting quality books for competitive examinations. The demand for an up-to-date library had been a long-pending requirement for the district. He and his wife had a wide range of such books, which they wanted to make good use of. But they did not have enough books to open a library.

When he got a chance to get a closer look at the misguided youth during a posting in Dantewada, the idea of opening a library crystallized and became clear in his mind.

He used social media to appeal to people interested in contributing books to his library. This is not the first time that IPS Parihar is doing such a noble deed.

Earlier, the IPS Officer had come to rescue thousands of children belonging to Hindi Medium and lower-income groups through his career counseling sessions, guidance webinars related to UPSC, competitive exams, English speaking, personality development, motivation, etc to bridge this growing educational gap between the haves and the have-nots. Children here are also motivated for various competitive examinations.

The IPS officer has constructively used social media so far for engaging youth positively, not only for the book bank but for various others causes. Recently, IPS Association praised him on Twitter for helping hundreds of critical patients all over India during challenging corona phase two.

After training, he was appointed as City SP in Raipur. Seeing his good and efficiency working here, he was promoted and posted in the Naxal affected area Dantewada as Additional SP. There also, left a great impact by leading the forces from the front in the fight against Naxalism. He also made a short film ‘Nai Subah Ka Sooraj’ to make the youth aware of this menace which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
