Food minister Bhagat has written a letter seeking time for meeting the Union Food Minister on November 10 and 11. Along with the Food Secretary of Chhattisgarh, other senior officers will also be present in the discussion with him.

The discussion with the Union Food Minister will include various issues including procurement of paddy on support price, custom milling, regular supply of gunny bags, permission to deposit that rice in Chhattisgarh state. Permission has been given by the Central Government to take 61.65 lakh tonnes of Arwa rice under the Central Pool in Chhattisgarh State related to Kharif Marketing Year 2021-22. However, no such permission has been given for usna rice. In such a situation, due to non-utilization of available milling capacity in the state, a situation of delay will arise in the disposal of paddy.

416 Usna mills are established in Chhattisgarh, their monthly milling capacity is 5.93 lakh tonnes. Some thin and thick varieties of paddy procured in the state are not milled as per the specification prescribed by the Central Government, due to which it is necessary to get the said paddy milled keeping in view the resolution of the paddy procured on the support price.

In Chhattisgarh, in the Kharif marketing year 2021-22, 105 lakh tonnes of paddy is expected to be procured from farmers on support price, which will produce 71 lakh tonnes of rice. The state will require 24 lakh tonnes of rice in PDS. 24 lakh tonnes of Arva rice is to be deposited in the Food Corporation of India. In addition, 23 lakh tonnes of Usna rice will also be requested to be taken to the central pool.

Bhagat will request to supply gunny bags regularly according to the number fixed by the Central Government for the purchase of paddy.
