Director-General of Police RK Vij reviews the status of the Supreme Court Committee guidelines on Road Safety.

Today, under the chairmanship of Director General of Police RK Vij a virtual meeting of all the superintendents of police was organized to review the compliance/implementation status of the guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety for road safety and smooth traffic management. In the initial address of this meeting, RK Vij spoke about the maintenance/training of road safety equipment, including speed radar guns, breath analyzers.
He asked the Superintendents to take effective enforcement action against drunkenness, speeding, without seatbelt and helmet, driving in the wrong direction in all the accident-prone road sections of the state. And directed for joint inter-departmental action under section 135 of the Motor Vehicle Act to analyze the causes of road accidents. He also ordered immediate entry in CCTNS and iRAD APP for analysis in the district/state headquarters. In the meeting, AIG Traffic Sanjay Sharma, while highlighting the road safety scenario of the state, apprised that in total 8203 road accidents occurred from January to August this year, 3679 deaths and 7035 got injured, and this month till September 27, 850 road accidents have occurred. In this, 302 persons died, and 712 were injured. The maximum number of road accidents occurred in Raipur (1254), Bilaspur (671), Durg (644), Rajnadgaon (614), Raigarh (465), Korba (427) districts, highest 47.41 per cent of the fatal accidents occurred from 03:00 PM to 09 PM. Among the dead, 69.13 per cent were motorcycle riders/drivers. Over speeding and hit and run are the reasons for these accidents in 79.53 per cent. According to the details of accidents, the maximum number of accidents occurred in January and the least in May. On average, 1005 accidents have taken place every month, while January, February, March, July and August have more than average accidents. In the end, after getting information about the additional needs/problems of all the districts, the meeting was concluded with the target of reducing the road accidents by at least 10 per cent by effective action plan/implementation for controlling road accidents in the district.
