The helicopter of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was on Monday denied permission to land at Choudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh citing the law and order situation developed in the wake of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. As Section 144 was imposed in Lakhimpur Kheri following the death of eight people including four farmers here, the Additional Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Government issued an order preventing Baghel’s flight from landing in Lucknow.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been made Senior AICC Observer for the forthcoming Assembly poll in Uttar Pradesh and he had to arrive in Lucknow on Monday morning for this purpose.
After his flight was denied permission Baghel tweeted, “Uttar Pradesh Government has issued the order preventing me from entering the state. Baghel questioned if civil rights have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh. If Section 144 is imposed in Lakhimpur then there should not be any problem if he lands in Lucknow.”
Following this tweet of the Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh Health Minister T S Singhdeo wrote, “After trying to illegally stop Smt @priyankagandhi & Shri @DeependerSHooda from reaching Lakhimpur, now the UP Government has issued orders not allowing Shri @Bhupeshbaghel’s flight to land in Lucknow.” Singhdeo said that BJP is pretending as if UP is a totalitarian state under a dictator.
Former AICC president Rahul Gandhi too tweeted after Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was detained and prevented from reaching out to Lakhimpur and said, “Priyanka, I know you will not move back – they people are scared of your daring. We will make the farmers win this non-violent fight for justice.”
To be noted, four farmers were among eight persons killed in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri after a convoy of three SUVs, including one owned by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, hit a group of farm protesters leading to a clash.
“Is it right to do politics over dead bodies?”
Expressing grief over the Lakhimpur incident, BJP National Vice President Dr Raman Singh said is it correct to do politics over dead bodies?
Dr Singh tweeted, “The incident in Lakhimpur Kheri of UP is very sad but is it right to do politics over dead bodies? Many tribal farmers were killed in police firing in Silger of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh, they have been agitating for 5 months but neither Rahul Gandhi nor Priyanka Gandhi nor Bhupesh Baghel reached to meet the affected people here.” Dr Singh questioned the double standards of these leaders
