Raipur:Like Chhattisgarh, Congress promises to give Rs 2500 per quintal paddy in UP ahead of Assembly poll.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel along with Congress National General Secretary and Uttar Pradesh In-charge Priyanka Gandhi had reached Gorakhpur, the stronghold of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath, to address a public meeting at Champadevi Park here on Sunday. The public meeting was held as part of ‘Purvachal Pratigya Yatra’ and Congress will try to reach out to people with its elections promises through it. The party has promised to UP people for purchasing paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal like in Chhattisgarh.
Prior to leave Raipur for Lucknow, Baghel told reports at Swami Vivekananda Airport that paddy is being procured at Rs 800-1200 per quintal in UP and there is no proper arrangement for paddy procurement in the state, resulting in harassment of farmers. Animals are causing damage to crops giving sleepless nights to farmers who have to take of their crops. Farmers of UP are angry with the present system and are looking forward to a system like Chhattisgarh, said Baghel, adding everybody in UP is angry with government.

This rally involving Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Priyanka Gandhi is said to be crucial to polarise farmers in the assembly seats of Gorakhpur and Basti Mandal of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Gorakhpur is the home district of Yogi Aditya Nath. He is also the Mahant of the Gorakhnath temple located in this city. In such a situation, BJP is also putting its full emphasis on this area. On Saturday itself, Chief Minister Aditya Nath held a meeting here.

Out of the eight promises made by the Congress is Uttar Pradesh, most promises are the copy of Chhattisgarh. Loan waiver of farmers, purchase of paddy and wheat at Rs 2500 per quintal and half the electricity bill were the promises of Congress in Chhattisgarh in 2018 poll. Fresh promises like sugarcane support price of Rs 400 per quintal, smartphone and scooty to girl students, dues to be cleared, 25 thousand per family, government employment to 20 lakh and free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. In Chhattisgarh, the Congress had promised a universal health system.
