The Rajnandgaon MLA and former Chief Minister assumed the position, with Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sao and Leader of the Opposition Charandas Mahant accompanying him to the Speaker’s chair in the House. During this, Mahant remarked, ‘Wherever you sit, that’s my past.’ Chief Minister Sai, along with Brijmohan Agrawal, Ajay Chandrakar, and Kedar Kashyap, proposed Raman Singh’s appointment as the Speaker.Sai highlighted Dr. Raman Singh’s extensive political experience, citing his tenure as a legislator since undivided Madhya Pradesh and his ministerial roles in the central government. Sai expressed pride in working alongside Singh, emphasizing that the day marked a proud moment for everyone present.Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel acknowledged the changing roles and reconciled accounts, praising Singh’s long political journey that included serving as a Lok Sabha member, a minister, and a Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh. Baghel recognized the continuation of many traditions and the establishment of new ones in the House, acknowledging its significant contributions.The second day of the Assembly session, scheduled for Wednesday, will witness the Governor delivering his address, alongside other governmental proceedings. The session’s final day includes a vote of thanks on the Governor’s address and discussions on other pending business. Officials anticipate the Vishnudeo Sai government introducing a supplementary budget during this session.In the recent Legislative Assembly elections, the Congress suffered a decisive defeat against the BJP, securing 35 seats while the BJP triumphed with 54 out of 90 seats. Additionally, the Gondwana Gantantra Party (G.G.P.) secured one seat.
