State Budget 2022-23 to be presented by CM Bhupesh Baghel on March 9

Online method was adopted to receive questions MLAs, answers were called from departments online and sent for printing online, said Speaker Charandas Mahant.

Raipur:State Budget 2022-23 will be tabled by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who also holds the portfolio of Finance, in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on March 9 at 12.30 pm, said Assembly Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant on Saturday.


The Budget Session of Chhattisgarh Assembly will have 13 sittings. Governor Anusuiya Uikey will address the House at 11 am on March 7. General discussion on income and expenditure will be held on March 10 followed by discussion on the Budget from March 11 to 23. 

A total of 1682 questions received for the Session include 854 starred questions and 828 unstarred. 114 Call Attention proposal, 10 Adjournment Motion, 16 proposal for Zero Hour,4 proposals on public interest were received. Dr Mahant said that Chhattisgarh Vanadhikrit Niyamitikaran Sansodhan Prastab will also be presented during the Session.

The Assembly will pay tributes to Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha former member Ramesh Warlyani, former Member of MP Assembly Madan Singh Dahariya and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeskar.

 In a major development Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly this year called questions from its MLAs on online mode.

A study by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, the online system implemented by the Chhattisgarh Assembly has left larger impact on environment as far as its conservation is concerned, Assembly Speaker Dr Mahant said.

A total 1682 questions were received from the MLAs out of which 1499 have been received through online.

Questions were sent by MLAs online for printing and answers were received online from departments. Online method was adopted to send the questions and answers for printing, said Dr Mahant.

IIT Kharagpur conducted the study to know the advantages of online system and outcome of the study is startling. The study revealed about 4.50 lakh pages (75 GSM, A4 Size) are used in the correspondence through offline mode which means 2.2 tonnes of paper can be saved every year. Besides, 9.68 tonnes of wood (about 58 trees) can be saved if online system is adopted. Moreover, electricity equal to consumption by 73 domestic refrigerators can be saved and1 lakh litre water. Sulfur Dioxide discharged by six 18-wheeler vehicles was prevented, said Dr Mahant.

To a query, Dr Mahant admitted that apart from Covid-19, elections in five states remained one of the reasons behind the delay in the Budget session. He said that the MLAs of almost all the parties, including BJP and Congress, were called for the campaigning in the poll-bound states and it would not have been possible for them to attend the Budget session.

Former MLA Gurmukh Singh Hora, RDA Chairman Subhash Dhupar, Assembly Secretariat Principal Secretary Chandra Shekhar Gangrade and Secretary Dinesh Sharma were present on the occasion.
