Raipur. Given the fast pace of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) works in Chhattisgarh, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T.S. Singhdeo has asked the MGNREGA commissioner to urge the increase in the labor budget for the current financial year 2021-22. Some districts of the state have created employment in the current month itself in excess of the target set for the entire financial year (up to March-2022). At the same time, some districts are close to achieving the target of the year in this month itself.

MGNREGA Commissioner Mohammad Kaiser Abdulhaq has written a letter to the Director, requesting him to approve an additional labor budget of two crore 39 lakh. At the beginning of the financial year, the central government had approved a labor budget of 13 crore 50 lakh days for Chhattisgarh. If the state’s proposal is cleared, the revised labor budget for this year will be 15.89 million.

Against the sanctioned 13 crore 50 lakh, the state has created employment of more than nine crore 15 lakhs. Based on the man-days created in the months of January, February and March in the last financial year 2020-21, there is a possibility of creating 15 crore 89 lakh days of employment at the end of this financial year. Given this, the state government has sent a proposal to increase the labor budget to the Union Ministry of Rural Development to provide adequate employment opportunities in the villages.
