CM Bhupesh Baghel instructs to curb illegal transportation of paddy from border states
Raipur: Taking
cognizance of the complaints of illegal transportation of paddy from the
bordering states to Chhattisgarh, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed all
district collectors and superintendents of police to keep a strict vigil on
illegal transportation of paddy from neighboring states.
The chief minister has
asked the officials to seal the state’s borders with neighboring states and
ensure strict check to stop illegal transportation of paddy in the border
areas. Besides, he has directed to taken strict action against the ones
indulged in these unlawful activities.
Baghel has also
directed the officers to ensure that no farmers of the state face any kind of
trouble during the transportation of paddy. He has said that procurement of
paddy on the support price of farmers is starting from December 1 in the state.
Farmers in Chhattisgarh are getting better price of paddy than the border
states. Along with getting the support price of paddy to the farmers, the state
government is also giving input subsidy under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay
Yojana.
Because of this, every
year complaints of illegal transportation of paddy from border states are
received during the paddy procurement season, which needs to be strictly
curbed, so that farmers of Chhattisgarh can get maximum benefit of this scheme.
In Chhattisgarh this
year, about 105 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is estimated to be procured from
farmers on support price. Paddy will be purchased at support price through more
than 2311 cooperative society centers in the state. This year 1.13 lakh new
farmers have registered. So far, the number of farmers registered for the sale
of paddy has exceeded 22.66 lakh.
