CG schools to observe ‘Safe Thursday’ every week. Teachers will guide children on how to prevent Covid in a half-hour session.

As Covid is here to stay, efforts are underway at various levels to control the pandemic. In this sequence, every Thursday, school children will get information about the Covid pandemic and measures to prevent it. The School Education Department has named this event ‘Safe Thursday’.

The Department of Education has prepared this programme in collaboration with UNICEF. ‘Safe Thursday’ is a 17-week programme based on activities. It is designed separately for classes 1 to 5 and 6 to 12. There will be activities on various topics related to Covid-19 like hand washing, proper use of masks, vaccination etc in all schools for 15-20 minutes every Thursday. For the convenience of the teachers, there is a video of it.

School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam said during the pandemic, schools were closed, and children were locked inside their homes. It was a difficult period for the children. This programme has been designed keeping in mind how children can protect themselves and their families with safe behaviour. He said that the programme will prepare children for future pandemics.

The covid infection rate is currently 3.78% in Chhattisgarh. There has been extensive damage due to corona in Chhattisgarh. Since March 2020, the pandemic has affected 11,56,159 people; 14 thousand 43  of these people lost their lives. On July 10, 110 new Covid cases were reported in the state. The rate of corona infection in the state has reached 3.78%. This is the highest infection rate ever since the third wave has passed. At present, 1466 corona patients in the state are undergoing treatment.
