Income Tax sleuths on Wednesday raided establishments of several businessmen across the state in the early hours, creating a stir among the coal traders. It is being said that the Income Tax team has come from Bhilai and Jabalpur.
The Income Tax team had reached the owner of Raigarh’s NR Ispat Sanjay Agrawal and his brother’s residence in capital Raipur. Apart from this, raids have also been conducted at Raigarh’s coal trader RakeshSharma. The details of the raids are expected to be revealed later. It is reported that for this raid, a team of Income Tax officers from Delhi also came to Raipur.Income tax may continue on Thursday, sources said.
Meanwhile, Income Tax teams have unearthed ‘benami’ transactions worth over Rs 100 crore in raids on some businessmen, including two Congress MLAs, in Jharkhand on November 8.
The CBDT said in a statement that on November 4, raids were conducted at 50 locations including Ranchi, Godda, Bermo, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Bihar’s Patna, Haryana’s Gurugram, West Bengal’s Kolkata. Income tax officials also recovered cash worth Rs 2 crore during the raids.
Income Tax had conducted searches at the locations of two Congress MLAs, who were identified by the officials as Kumar Jaimangal alias Anoop Singh and Pradeep Yadav.
The CBDT said that more than Rs 2 crore in cash has also been recovered and so far more than 100 crorebenami transactions/investments have been detected. A large number of documents and digital evidence have also been found in the raid. The CBDT said, “Preliminary analysis of these evidences suggests that these groups have adopted a variety of avenues for tax evasion.
