Jeep crushes crowd attending preparation of Durga immersion procession at Jashpur dist

Jashpur:An uncontrolled and rashly driven jeep crushed a crowd of youths gathered for a Durga immersion procession in Patthalgaon block of Jashpur district on Friday, leaving one person dead and over 16 injured. The injured persons were admitted to a local hospital even though official confirmation regarding number of death and injured persons was awaited.

According to information, preparations for Godess Durga immersion were in progress when a rashly driven jeep hit them. More than 16 people present in the crowd were injured in the accident while one person was killed. Sources informed that the death toll may increase as condition of some injured persons was said to be critical. 

The angry crowd beat the driver of the jeep black and blue after the incident and set the vehicle on fire. The injured were rushed to the Patthalgaon civil hospital for treatment. 

Sources also claimed that Cannabis peddlers were in the jeep. Two accused were arrested and both said to be the residents of Singroli in Madhya Pradesh. ASI has been suspended following the incident, sources said.
