increasing green cover on the bank of 28 Rivers in Chhattisgarh, turning them aesthetically pleasing

Raipur: Nearly 11 lakh saplings have been planted on the banks of 28 different rivers under the “River Bank Tree Plantation” programme during the last rainy season in Chhattisgarh. As a result, 978.785 hectares of river bank area will get a facelift with increased green cover adorned with beautiful fruit bearing and flowering plants, making the river banks aesthetically pleasing.

According to the intention of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the work of plantation on river banks was done under the guidance of Forest and Climate Change Minister Mohammad Akbar by the department. The plantation has been done under River Bank Plantation Programme, CAMPA, MNREGA and DMF funds. 

Rivers under this programme include Indravati River, Shabari River, Chakka Bukka River, Mahanadi, Pairi River, Kelo River, Ib River, Jonk River, Hasdeo River, Tandula River, Narangi River, Bhanwardih River, Atem River, Rihand River, Semarkhad River, Bhupka River and Mahanadi River. Apart from this, plantation work has also been done on the banks of Sendur River, Baran River, Moran River, Surya River, Kanhar River, Bhaisun River, Pathel River, Ubhay River, Banas River, Odari River and Doodh River.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief of Forest Force Rakesh Chaturvedi informed that nearly 22 thousand plants have been planted in 20 hectare area on the banks of Indravati river, 5 thousand 500 plants in 05 hectare area of Shabari river bank, 5 thousand 500 plants in 05 hectare area on Chakka-Bukka river bank and 57 thousand 200 plants have been planted in 52 hectares of Mahanadi River bank. Similarly, 33 thousand plants in 30 hectare area of Pairi river bank, 780 plants in 1.88 hectare area of Kelo river bank, 200 plants in one hectare area of Ib river bank, 44 thousand plants in 40 hectare area of Jonk river bank and 46 thousand 200 saplings have been planted in 42 hectare area of the Hasdeo River bank. 

Similarly, 33 thousand plants have been planted in 30 hectare area of Tandula river bank, 48 thousand 671 plants in 44 hectare area of Narangi river bank, 29 thousand plants in 27 hectare area of Bhanwardih river bank, 22 thousand plants in 20 hectare area of Atem river bank and One lakh 65 thousand saplings have been planted in 150 hectares of Rihand river bank. 27 thousand 500 saplings have been planted in 25 hectare area of Semarkhad river bank, 27 thousand 500 plants in 25 hectare area of Bhupka river bank, 77 thousand plants in 70 hectare area of Mahanadi river bank and one lakh 49 thousand plants in 135 hectare area of Sondur river bank.

Apart from this, 38 thousand 500 saplings have been planted in 35 hectare area of Baran river bank, 27 thousand 500 plants in 25 hectare area of Moran river bank and 11 thousand saplings in 10 hectare area of Surya river bank. Similarly, 11 thousand saplings have been planted in 10 hectare area of Kanhar river bank, 33 thousand plants in 30 hectare area of Bhaisun river bank, 11 thousand plants in 10 hectare area of Pathel river bank, 11 thousand plants in 10 hectare of Ubhay river bank, 77 thousand saplings have been planted in 70 hectare area of Banas river bank, 27 thousand 500 saplings have been planted in 25 hectare area of Odari river bank and 830 saplings have been planted in one hectare area of Doodh river bank.
