Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel unveiled the statue of educationist Late Basant Sharma

Raipur: Chief Minister
Mr. Bhupesh Baghel unveiled the statue of educationist and social worker Late Basant
Sharma in DLS College campus in Bilaspur on Monday. Late Shri Sharma had
established DLS College in the private sector about 25 years ago. About 2
thousand students from low income groups are studying in the college. Shri
Sharma passed away a year ago on this day at the age of about 55 years.

Chief Minister Baghel
paid homage to Late Basant Sharma by unveiling a life-size statue of him in the
college premises. Baghel got emotional remembering Late Basant Sharma. He
remembered the moments spent with him with teary eyes. “We have lost a
true friend”, he said.

Addressing the programme,
Chief Minister Baghel said that Late Basant Sharma was a simple, easy-going and
progressive person. He was a man who followed his passion. He said that it is a
very emotional moment. The Corona pandemic has caused a lot of damage to all of
us. Late Sharma had a special attachment with the people of Bilaspur. Revenue
Minister Jai Singh Agrawal said that Late Basant Sharma has done remarkable
work in the field of education. His contribution towards the development of
Bilaspur region cannot be forgotten.

Giving a brief
introduction about life of Late Basant Sharma, Sanjay Sharma said that Late
Shri Basant Sharma was born on 4th May 1965 in Katghora. He established DLS
college in the name of his father Late Dashrath Lal Sharma Ji in the year 1997.

He was always socially
and politically active and gave a significant contribution in the field of
education. Started with just 4 rooms and 200 students, today the institution
spread over 5 acres has taken the form of a well-equipped post graduate
college, where nearly 2000 students are studying and about 100 teachers and
staff are working. He was a councilor from 1994 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2009.
He was also the president of 21 institutions.

In the programme, Chief
Minister felicitated sculptor Parvez Alam–maker of the statue of Late Sharma.
Apart from this, gold medals were given to two girl students of the college.
The programme was attended by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Alung, IG Ratanlal
Dangi, Collector Dr. Saransh Mittar, Senior Superintendent of Police Parul
Mathur, Abhay Narayan Rai, member of the Governing Body of the college Nisha
Basat Sharma, Principal Dr. Ranjana Chaturvedi, senior vice-president of
governing body Partha Sharma and other members of the college family.
