Amidst controversy over the submission of Jhiram Investigation Commission report to the Governor, Chhattisgarh government has constituted a new commission which will explore different angles of the Jhirammassacre and submit its report to the state government.

The General Administration Department (GAD) of Chhattisgarh government issued a notification regarding the formation of the Commission on Thursday.

In exercise of the power under Section-3 of Inquiry Commission Act 1952 (No.60 of 1952), a single-member commission was formed to probe into the Jhiram Ghati incident executed by the naxalites on May 25, 2013, leaving several senior Congress leaders dead.

According to a notification issued on January 1, 2019, additional points were added. The inquiry commission secretary had on September 23, 2021 sought some more time to complete the investigation process. The tenure of the commission was over on September 30, 2021 and the commission chairman Prashant Kumar Mishra was transferred to Andhra Pradesh High Court as Chief Justice, reads the notification issued by the GAD on Thursday. Therefore, the state government has decided to appoint two new members for further inquiry into the Jhiram incident.

Thus the state government has added two more points to the inquiry process. The new points are – if the affected people in the Jhiram Naxal attack were provided proper medical facility and if adequate measures were taken to stop repetition of such incident.

The remaining points will be added as per the circumstances and as the inquiry progresses, said the GAD order.

The state government has submitted a two-member commission comprising Justice Satish K Agnihotri as chairman of the commission and  retired judge G Minhazuddin as member. The commission will submit its report within six months from the release of this notification.
