Raipur
In a shocking incident of ragging at AIIMS Raipur, MBBS students, including girls, were allegedly locked in a room, subjected to verbal abuse, and later made to stand in the freezing cold in the night. Several students reportedly fainted due to suffocation during the ordeal.
The alleged incident took place past midnight on November 15-16, involving MBBS 2023 batch students. Reports claim they were confined in a closed room with windows, doors, and fans turned off, leading to suffocation. During this, seniors hurled abusive language at them.
Later, around 2 a.m., the juniors were allegedly taken to the basketball court and forced to stand in just their T-shirts despite the biting cold. Private security guards at AIIMS reportedly witnessed the incident but did not intervene. The ordeal reportedly lasted until 3:30 a.m., after which the students were allowed to leave.
The incident came to light when a distressed student emailed Supreme Court lawyer and SAVE NGO (Society Against Violence in Education) legal head Meera Kaur Patel. In the email, the anonymous student detailed the collective ragging and mental harassment they endured during the night of the Oriana Fest (November 14-17), an annual event at AIIMS Raipur.
According to Meera Patel, the email also accused seniors of threatening students to shave their facial hair with a trimmer. The victims reported severe psychological distress following the incident.
Meera Patel criticized AIIMS Raipur’s management, stating that ragging is a cognizable offense that requires immediate FIR registration within 24 hours. However, the management has yet to take action, violating UGC anti-ragging regulations. Patel warned that legal action could be initiated against the AIIMS director under relevant sections if the management fails to act.
According to AIIMS Raipur, no complaints or incidents were reported by the MBBS 2023 batch students during their inquiry. The management has launched an investigation to ascertain the facts.
The ragging reportedly occurred during AIIMS Raipur’s Oriana Fest, which featured events like DJ nights and live concerts, attracting participants from other institutions.

Further investigations are ongoing, and authorities are under pressure to ensure strict action against the accused and accountability within the institution.
