SSP Santosh Singh forms special team to investigate alleged mob lynching case

Following the alleged lynching of two truckers and the critical injury of another by cow vigilantes, Chhattisgarh police have filed an FIR against unknown assailants on charges of culpable homicide, attempted murder, and collective criminal intent. The victims, Chand Khan and Guddu Khan from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were reportedly beaten to death and thrown off the Mahanadi River bridge. The investigation to apprehend the culprits is actively ongoing.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Singh has announced the formation of a special investigative team based on the initial findings. This team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Raipur Rural) Kirtan Rathore, includes Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sanjay Singh, Mana CSP Lambodar Patel, Arang SHO Satyendra Shyam, Mandir Hasaud SHO Sachin Singh, Cyber Cell In-Charge Paresh Pandey, and 14 other members. “The team has begun a thorough investigation to trace and arrest the accused,” stated SSP Singh.

The incident, which took place around midnight near the Mahanadi bridge on the Mahasamund-Raipur border, resulted in the deaths of Chand Khan and Guddu Khan. Post-mortem examinations were conducted at the Community Health Centers in Arang and Mahasamund. Based on the preliminary investigation and post-mortem reports, a case has been registered under Sections 304, 307, and 34 of the IPC for further investigation.

The victims were transporting animals in a truck when they were chased and surrounded by a group of 10-12 youths on the Mahanadi Bridge during the night of June 6 and 7. The truckers were then brutally assaulted. Tragically, one of the men was found dead in the Mahanadi River, while another succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a local hospital. The third victim is currently receiving treatment for severe injuries at a private hospital in Raipur.

The assailants allegedly accused the victims of cow trafficking before attacking them. Eyewitnesses and survivors are being questioned to gather more details about the incident. Post-mortem examinations have been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Police discovered the three men lying on the sands of the Mahanadi bridge connecting Raipur and Mahasamund district on Friday. They were immediately transported to the hospital. “One died on the spot, the second succumbed to injuries, and the third man is recovering under doctors’ supervision,” noted the police.
