Recent lightning, storm claim eight lives in state, says revenue minister in Assembly

Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday said in the Assembly that eight lives were lost in the lightning and storm and their relatives will be compensated within 15 days as per the rules.

The issue of damage to crops due to unseasonal rains occurred in the last four-five days was raised on Tuesday. 

BJP member Shivratan Sharma alleged that the government did not take cognizance of the damage caused by the rains. Another opposition MLA Ajay Chandrakar said  Rabi crop has suffered huge damage and the farmers have become helpless due to the policies of the government.

Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel demanded proper compensation after getting the loss assessed. On this, Revenue Minister Jaisingh Agrawal said that all the district offices have been directed to initiate action. As many as 8 people and 36 animals have died due to storm and lightning. The assessment of crop damage is still going on. There is a provision to give compensation amount within 15 days, soon after the assessment, the assistance amount will be released.

MLA and former leader of opposition Dharamlal Kaushik raised the issue of schools closed in the state. How many naxal affected closed schools have been started in the state from January 2019 till January 31, 2023, he asked, adding how many teachers are employed in this and how many closed schools are planned to be started.

School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam replied  275 closed schools have been started and 185 teachers are working in them. 199 schools were opened in Bijapur, 2 in Kanker, 74 closed schools in Sukma. There are 146 teachers in the primary school and 39 in the middle school. Where there are no teachers, 12th pass people are being taught.

Tender has been called for the renovation of 181 schools and refused opposition’s allegation of any irregularities in the tender process. Both Hindi and English schools are running. The opposition staged a walkout on the issue.

Earlier, dissatisfied with the answers to the questions related to Eklavya Vidyalaya operated in Rajnandgaon and Chowki-Mohla-Manpur districts, the MLAs had created ruckus and walked out of the House. BJP MLA Krishnakumar Bandhi had asked that how much amount was approved in the year 2020-21 to 2022-23? And whether the purchase rules were followed in the purchase or not?

Tekam said  Rs 917.97 lakh was sanctioned during this period.
