Raipur SSP Santosh Kumar Singh Awarded Doctorate Degree for his research on United Nations Peace Efforts

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP Raipur, Santosh Kumar Singh, has beenĀ awarded a Doctorate degree by Hemchand Yadav University in Durg for completing his research on the subject of United Nations peace efforts. Singh completed his research under the guidance of Dr. Sunita Mishra, Head of the Department of Political Science at Government Navin College Bhilai, and Assistant Director Dr. Pramod Yadav, Head of the Department of Political Science at Seth RCS Arts and Commerce College Durg. His research topic was āUnited Nations Peacebuilding Commission: Assessing its Role and Functions.ā
Singh’s research highlights the need to focus on peacebuilding activities, beyond peacekeeping and peace-making, to establish lasting peace in conflict-affected nations post-Cold War. He found that peacebuilding missions under the supervision of the UN Peacebuilding Commission have significantly strengthened global peace efforts in this century.
During the research presentation at the university, dignitaries such as Vice Chancellor Dr. Aruna Palta, Registrar Bhupendra Kuldeep, external examiner Dr. Gopal Krishna Sharma from Vikram University Ujjain, Dr. Anjani Shukla, Dr. Sunita Mishra, Dr. Pramod Yadav, Dr. Rajmani Patel, Dr. Sapna Sharma, along with professors and researchers were present.
Singh’s thesis will help enhance understanding of the UNās peace efforts, particularly peacebuilding, which is a relatively new area in peace initiatives. Notably, India is firmly committed to assisting the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security and ranks third among the largest contributors to peacekeeping forces worldwide. Since 1950, India has participated in 49 peace missions and contributed nearly 200,000 peacekeepers. Senior Indian police and military officers participate in these missions. Singh’s research will be especially useful for policymakers, practitioners, and students of foreign policy. It will also aid in understanding the necessary elements for establishing lasting peace in conflict-affected areas within the country.
Singh holds an MA in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and an MPhil in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. During his MPhil, he wrote a dissertation on the participation of developing countries in the United Nations Security Council. Several of his research papers have been published in various national and international journals.
