Gauthans procuring cow dung with their own capita signifies a huge success of Godhan Nyaya Yojana: CM Baghel

Raipur: Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Gauthans procuring dung with their own capital is a major sign of success for Godhan Nyay Yojana. More than half of the Gauthans in the rural areas of the state are procuring cow dung from their own resources, and do not need the funds from the state government any more. 

Out of the Rs 4.62 crore paid to the cow dung vendors today, Rs 2.88 crore has been paid by 4270 self-supporting Gauthans and Rs 1.74 crore has been paid by the Agriculture Department. In the last fortnight, self-supporting Gauthans of the state have paid more amount against dung procurement than the Agriculture Department. So far, the self-supporting Gauthans of the state have procured dung worth Rs 29.61 crore from their own resources.

Baghel was addressing the virtual programme organized at his residence office today for the transfer of funds to the beneficiaries of Godhan Nyaya Yojana. Chief Minister made an online payment of Rs 7.83 crore to the beneficiaries in the programme, for the cow dung procured from cattle rearers, villagers, farmers and landless people in Gauthans between November 16 and November 30.  In lieu of cow dung, an amount of Rs 4.62 crore was transferred online to the accounts of dung vendors, Rs 1.28 crore was transferred to Gauthan committees and Rs 1.93 crore was transferred as dividend to the accounts of women groups.

Chief Minister said that the amount paid in lieu of cow dung is continuously increasing. People are taking care of cows, understanding the importance of cow dung and vermi compost. During the Bhent-Mulaqat visit, some Gauthan committees had demanded construction of a shed so that they may conduct economic activities from their own funds.

Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said that so far 11, 252 Gauthans have been approved in the state, and construction of 9, 619 of these Gauthans have been built. And 8440 of these Gauthans have been built in rural areas. Moreover, 4270 of these Gauthans have become self-supporting. The production and distribution of vermi compost is being done with the coordination of various departments. Soon, the production of vermi compost will be started on a large scale in Chhattisgarh. He said that RIPA’s activities will be further expanded with the participation of youth.
