Former CM’s Son Chaitanya Baghel Questioned in Prof. Vinod Sharma Attack

Raipur
In a major development, Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, was summoned by the Bhilai police for questioning. He was interrogated for four and a half hours and later released. Chaitanya was called by the police to provide information regarding the recent attack on Assistant Professor Vinod Sharma in Bhilai. Durg SP Jitendra Shukla confirmed Chaitanya’s questioning, stating that his name surfaced during the investigation. Sources reveal that Chaitanya was summoned based on call records linked to the case. Bhilai Mayor Nirmal Kosre also accompanied him to the station.

The 57-year-old professor, who was assaulted, is currently admitted to AIIMS Raipur. On July 19, six individuals on two motorcycles brutally attacked him with sticks, leaving him severely injured. Last month, three suspects—Prasoon Pandey, Aman Dwivedi, and Karan Pathak—were arrested in Madhya Pradesh in connection with the attack.

Three others—Probir Sharma, Shivam Mishra, and Dheerendra Vastrakar—are still at large. The police have identified Probir as the main accused. It was discovered during the investigation that he had connections with Chaitanya, which led to Chaitanya being called for questioning.

Probir, a contractor with the Bhilai Municipal Corporation, remains a fugitive along with the other two suspects. The police have issued lookout notices and rewards for their arrest. Probir’s application for anticipatory bail was rejected. This case has gained significant attention, becoming a high-profile matter in Bhilai.
