Emergency Landing of Indigo Flight at Raipur: Bomb Threat Declared False, Accused Arrested

Raipur – In a mid-air scare, Indigo flight 6E-812 from Nagpur to Kolkata was forced to make an emergency landing at Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda Airport after a passenger, Animesh Mandal, falsely claimed there was a bomb on board.

The incident unfolded at around 8:40 AM, when Air Traffic Control (ATC) received a distress alert from the crew after Mandal warned a cabin crew member about an alleged bomb on the flight. Authorities quickly responded by rerouting the flight, which was carrying 187 passengers and six crew members, to Raipur for an emergency landing.

Upon landing, teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Raipur Police launched a thorough inspection of the aircraft, passengers, and their belongings. CSP Lambodar Patel and TI Bhavesh Gautam later confirmed that no explosives or suspicious items were found.

Following the hoax, Mandal was taken into custody and charged under Indian Penal Code Section 351(4) and Section 3(1)(Gha) of the Anti-Unlawful Acts Act, 1982, for endangering civil aviation security. Raipur SSP Santosh Singh stated that Mandal, a Nagpur resident, was arrested and presented in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.

The incident highlights the swift response protocols in place for handling potential threats to civil aviation, as well as the severe legal consequences for causing panic with false information.
