CM Bhupesh Baghel meets Governor over reservation bills, hopes the Governor will soon take a decision

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghek said that a decision in the reservation bills pending at the Raj Bhawan for more than three months should be taken at the earliest. 

The Chief Minister met the new Governor of Chhattisgarh, Bishwabhushan Harichandan on Sunday and held a discussion on the reservation bills pending since December 2, 2022. State Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Subrat Sahoo werealso present there during the talks that lasted for some time. 

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said,  “I have spoken to the Governor regarding reservationand told him that government recruitment has stopped in the state. We want a quick decision on this. So that work can be done in the interest of the state.”

The Chief Minister said that he will get the benefit of the Governor’s experience and hope he will take a decision soon. He has been a law minister and has good experience in politics and administrative work and knows how to deal with such matters.

The state government, in a special session of the assembly on December 2, increased the reservation for various classes in the state. After this, 32 percent reservation was made for Scheduled Tribes, 27 percent for OBCs, 13 percent for Scheduled Castes and 4 percent for economically weaker sections in Chhattisgarh. This bill was sent to the governor for approval. Anusuiya Uikey, who was then governor, refused to accept. A PIL was filed in the High Court by the state government challenging the stalling of the Reservation Bill. 

The Chief Minister has expressed his displeasure many times on this whole issue. He said that at the behest of the BJP, the Governor and his legal advisors are deliberately stallingthe bill.
