Chhattisgarh to host a Professional boxing event for the first time

Raipur: The wave of Professional boxing will reach Raipur for the first time with an event named ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ which will be organized in collaboration with the Government of Chhattisgarh. The event is scheduled to take place in August and will be attended by Olympic medalist international professional boxer  Vijender Singh.

Vijender Singh is very keen about this first of a kind event in Chhattisgarh. He said “I am very grateful to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel for agreeing to organize my next professional match in Raipur city. This event is a great opportunity to introduce boxing to the people of Chhattisgarh. Hopefully this will inspire a new generation of young boxers to move forward and accomplish success in the field of boxing.”

He added that he is currently training in Manchester and is looking forward to making a fresh start again this August. Meanwhile, Singh met chief minister on June 8 and discussed the possibilities of promoting the sport of boxing in Chhattisgarh and urged him to organize a professional boxing event in Chhattisgarh, on which approval was given by the chief minister.

Vijender Singh is the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic bronze medal in 2008. Vijender Singh became a professional boxer in the year 2015, and has won 12 matches including 8 knockouts and a defeat in just one match. His 12-match winning streak in boxing ended when he was defeated in Goa. “Rumble in the Jungle” will be his sixth bout of his professional boxing career in India. The event will be organized by Purple Goat Sportainment LLP.

Baghel said it is very important for Chhattisgarh to promote sports for the betterment of the present and the upcoming generation. Vijender Singh, who has made the nation proud at the Olympics, will inspire young athletes across the state.

Meanwhile, this pro-boxing event will be held at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium Raipur, in which he will face (headline bout) other international professional boxers as well.
