Raipur:Around 50000 BJP workers and leaders across the state staged demonstration and participated in ‘jail bharo’ (court arrest)  movement on Monday, demanding roll back of a state government order, which according to the agitating BJP leaders, aims at suppressing the voice of common people of the state. The order imposing tough restrictions on rally, public meetings, dharna, social and political programmes etc. is clearly an attempt to crush the democratic rights of the people, said the BJP leaders. The BJP leaders said that the state government has come up with this ‘dark law’ out of fear. People were unhappy and angry with the state government and started raising their voice. To suppress these voices, the state government has put restrictions on dharna, demonstration, political events etc., said the BJP leaders.

However, the attempt of BJP workers to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in Raipur was foiled by the heavy police force deployed by the Raipur district administration. All roads leading to the Chief Minister’s residence were closed through barricading. Roads were dug to erect bamboo, wooden, metal poles and prepare a strong structure to prevent the BJP workers from reaching the Chief Minister’s residence. However, BJP workers led by MLA and former minister Brijmohan Agrawal managed to break through the barricading near Kalibadi.

Brijmohan Agrawal, MP Sunil Soni, Rural District President Abhinesh Kashyap, Nande Sahu and MotilalSahu led the demonstration at Kalibadi Chowk of Raipur while former minister and BJP spokesperson Rajesh Munat, Minal Choubey at Azad Chowk, BJP district president Shrichand Sundrani and Chhagan Mundra at Telibandha Talab, and Devji Bhai Patel, Sanjay Shrivastava, Rajiv Agrawal led the movement at Fafadih.  All the groups headed for the residence of the Chief Minister, however, they were intercepted by the police force. The BJP workers courted arrest at GhadiChowk, Telibandha, Fafadih and Azad Chowk. They were holding placards carrying anti-government slogans like stop crushing democratic rights of people and ‘loktantra ki hathyara sarkar murdabad’. Around 4000 BJP workers courted arrest in the state capital.

BJP state president Vishnudeo Sai joined the ‘jail bharoandolan’ in Jashpur while BJP National vice president and former chief minister Dr Raman Singh, BJP Rajnandgaon district President Madhusudan Yadav led the ‘andolan’ in Rajnandgaon district.
